View Full Version here: : DBK/Registax
Hi,
I tried my new DBK-21. When I load the AVI in registax it says unable to initiate decompression of video. However windows media player plays it fine.
Any ideas?

maybe the file is too large or too many frames?
Hi,
It's 2,000 frames or about 230 mb. Is this to large?

not according to this thread but it sounds like the same error - why not try a smaller file/less frames to see if the problem goes away.

What codec are you using?
Hi,
Unfortunately I only have the one AVI. How can I cut it into segments?

Virtual dub can cut AVI's into sections.... Then alternatively It could also export your AVI into a BMP frame sequence...
I am not sure which one is being used. Here is a list of my installed codecs.

Hi Paul.
I'm pretty sure that it's related to the codec you are using.
Try using the Y800 codec, which you select when you have the camera running with IC Capture.

What camera contol software are you using? I am assuming that you are using IC capture. Right?
If so, use the codec Y800.
Thanks Alex,
Problem solved. If I cut it into segments using virtual dub then they can be loaded in Registax :)

Hi. You are processing with a very old computer, I feel!!! With a new PC, I process 1,9 Gb AVI files without problems...
I have used Virtual dub for cut a too much big AVI, and I donīt know why, but the sum of the parts are smaller that the original AVI. Maybe we are loosing info when we cut an AVI
Hi Pelu,
It's strange. The original AVI is only 235mb but i cant open it in Registax 4. When I save 1000 frames in Virtual Dub the size is around 1 gb which is much larger and Registax can open it fine.
My laptop is over 4 years old, but has a centrino 1.8 cpu in it. It's not too bad on the processing side in any of DSS, Registax or PS2, but a QUAD core lappy would be nice, but maybe too power hungry in the field :)

Paul - as mentioned in your Jupiter post, check here (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?p=278216&highlight=debayer#post278216) to get around that problem (I think).
I know... I have AVI pure, because I can select "frames without compression" when I capture with the Watec. Ovbiously, your video can be smaller, but Registax must "decompress" and the working video is big...
My computer is new, but was the cheapest in the market ;)

This link to a pdf on the TIS website explains clearly what you need to do to get uncompressed colour images from your DBK/DFK
ftp://tis_ftp:Imaging199@ftp.theimagingso urce.com/Imaging/101abc/astronomycapture.pdf
Thanks Paul,
That should be posted in the tips and techniques. Its camera specific but very usefull if you have a DBK!
