View Full Version here: : Moon, Regulus, Mars, Saturn Conjunction
Grabbed this shot just a few minutes ago of the conjunction of the moon, Regulus, Mars and Saturn.
Made for a wonderful sight in the evening sky.

Nice image RB. the earth-shine came out very nicely. :)

Al, Cant wait to see the HDR! :D 11 shots!!! must have a fair bit of range!

Well, the HDR image is proving problematic.
PS CS3 won't handle the alignment (I think it's aligning on background noise since that covers most of the image), and EasyHDR falls over on lack of memory...
Here is a simple stack, manually aligned in CS3. Normal blending mode. It's amazing how much the moon moves between shots, so the images are aligned on Regulus, Mars and Saturn. I really should do two stacks (one on the moon as well) and then a masked combine, but I just don't think it's going to be worth the effort.

Nice shots guys! Was really hoping the clouds would clear tonight and they did. Here's a shot I grabbed from my deck. Taken with a Canon 450D at 50mm f/2 2seconds ISO 100.

Hi Dave
What! No H0ughy at the Qld Astrofest! Unthinkable!:eyepop:
Wow, it will be a dull and boring affair without you. I would like to respectfully suggest to your lovely, understanding and compassionate Wife that you be permitted to attend; you are an exemplary ambassador of NSW in general, and Newcastle in particular. You will be sorely missed at this interstate, nay, international, nay, inter-galactic, cosmic gathering.
Can we start a petition or will that make matters worse!
Cheers
Dennis
Even though it was problematic, your HDR turned out nicely Al, I like the subtle hues you got on the moon and it's sharp too.
Your's turned out nicely too Troy, very nicely framed and with a band of light cloud below as well.
LOL H0ughy it was worth it though, your shots are awesome mate, love the artistic composition :eyepop:

i think the reason you got into trouble Dave was the load of "goodies" sitting next to your son in the back of the car
"Emergency Supplies" were they ?

Well I have had a go at a few shots of the event.
Turned out to be a nice clear evening here !
The second shot is a bit of an "Effects" shot, brings out the colors of Mars, Saturn and Regulus.
Was worth the effort of a Sunday night set up !

Great shots everyone. I saw it from a plane window over Bass Strait! Nothing seen from the ground in Melbourne - cloud.

thanks guys
Well had a bad day – the wife is on the warpath. We had a BBQ early afternoon after a disastrous morning. After which my wife then went of for a kip (I thought she was too tired and sick (never ever assume they are boys)) So I let sleeping dogs lie and took my son for an impromptu imaging session. Left the wife, asleep, and my daughter watching Harry Potter on her PC. Wife wakes up, we are not there – well the rest is history………and I am certainly reminded of the fact I am on “holiday” having a good time without her and the kids.
So now I have to clean up back room to her standards before I am allowed to go to Qld, patch a relationship (and I have done some terrible damage this time), keep kids happy and somehow smile………

Conjunction from Yarramalong...spent 50 x as long as it took to take playing aroung. Make photoshop your friend and you have pain for life. Great shots everybody. Al, liked HDR, be good to see more. Trevor 10 minuits was a great investment for great results. Good luck h0ugly.

Here's an uncropped, full size, masked stack of 2 images (one with the moonshine, Regulus, Mars and Saturn, and the other with the bright detail of the moon (complete with 4s worth of star trailing:thumbsup::P;)).
Al.
PS Hang in there, HOughy!
