got this the other day just before I started work, I had my camera at work because the factory I work in is directly under the flight path of planes taking off and landing from Brisbane airport... they usually fly over at under 400ft...
Anyways... this came past, and although it was taken through a wire mesh fence, it still came up ok.... I was trying to get the front in focus and the back end blured, but panning just pre sunset @ 1/50th with the 70-200 isnt quite as easy as it sounds.. (YET!!!)
Thought it was still worth posting...

Nice shot, Alex. I'm trying to get some shots of the F111's up here at present but they're gone before I get a chance to catch one!!.

take note of the times they fly past every day... you'll find its usually almost good enough to set your watch by.... then one day, be ready in ambush mode, so as soon as its visible, its in the view finder! :D Thats how I used to take photos when I was living in the N.T.... I was near RAAF base Tindall, at 14:23:(15-50 seconds) two F/A-18's would fly over at around 900-1100ft, every other day.
So I'd be ready and waiting with the BIGma 170-500 APO on my nikon... :) best way to do it..
...there is no substitute...
well panned :)
how do kyou find the bigma? does it focus ok at 500mm?

it sometimes is a touch soft at 500 mm but usually hits target nicely. I've got a bunch of photos taken with it.. Pm me your email address if you want a look..
Well shot Alex !
I certainly need to get more practice panning.
Would love the opportunity to image some aircraft and am trying to find a nice vantage point around the airport.

Yeah the aircraft shots are always fun... Just dont let airport security see you... especially not with a dirty great big lens on the camera... Apparently, if you photograph aircraft, you are a terrorist these days... I always thought I'd actually have to blow one up to be a terrorist, but it seems snapping a few harmless photos is enough to qualify these days.... Paranoia sucks.
