Hi
I have made a list of the alignment stars appearing on my HEQ5PRO paddle which shows the alignment stars available, their constellations and magnitudes. My paddle is the Southern Hemisphere version. As an excel file I have a list in the order that they appear on the paddle and another one in order of constellations. I find this is helpful in choosing alignment stars near the area of the sky where I intend to image. Is anyone interested in such a list? If so, how do I attach the excel file to this thread?

HI.

The problem with making a list like this is that as the evening goes on the list will change because new stars rise as others set. Your list would have to be updated every hour or so I would imagine, the synscan will chose the best alignment starts for the that particular time and date and lat and long. If you keep compililing your list for a whole year with time and date specific I think you would have a killer list on your hands. It would be quite a project and your knowlege of the night sky would improve greatly. Might start a list of my own for my lat long.

What would be nice is a printable map with the named alignment stars shown and listed/cross referenced to constellations.

That in conjunction with a planisphere would make life all the easier.

Thanks for your comments - I did not know the SkyScan changed stars to suit the time/date - if so this would indeed be a task to document! It would be helpful if a full list of stars/objects were supplied as per my old NGC Sky Vector digital setting instrument.

Hi Peter

SkyWatcher used to provide the list of alignment stars and charts. I can't find it on their web site anymore.

But I do have a copy. Perhaps Mike could find a home for it here somewhere?

Steve.

Hi Steve
Such a list would be very handy. I have just added a couple of text files to
my astro computer icons. One shows a star list in alphabetical order and associated constellations. The other is the reverse showing constellations in alphabetical order and associated stars. I derived these files from lists found on the net. I converted them to text files as these open rapidly.
I would also have liked to list the star magnitudes but I could not find a suitable list (eg associating stars/magnitudes/constellations).
Cheers Peter

Please do send a pm to Iceman regarding this. Im sure he would be happy to help unless there's a copywrite issue.
