Dual Scope Mounting Saddle:

Main mounting Plate:150mm x 450 mm (5mm thick Aluminium plate available either as scrap from scrap yard or a boat builder.

Dovetail: I made up in two parts, a flat plate 50mm wide x 300mm long x 10mm thick and same length of 40mm wide 5mm thick.

If you can use 15mm thick plate then you won’t need the extra piece on top to attain the correct thickness to fit the Skywatcher EQ5 mount dovetail saddle with the correct clearance.

Various Allen key headed bolts 5mm, 8mm, nuts, washers, and spring washers

2 commercially available dovetail saddle plates (expensive bit) although you could easily make these if you have access to a lathe.

General tools needed:

Bench drill various metal drills up to 8mm
Metal ruler
Centre Punch
Tap set, 5mm tap, to tap all threaded holes
Hacksaw
Wet and Dry sandpaper
Metal files

Saddle needs to be recessed in two places to fit into the standard EQ5. This is done by hacksaw and metal files and is the most time consuming and laborious part of the job.

Four 8mm holes are drilled at the ends of the main plate this allows for two mounting positions for the dovetail saddles.

The series of 5 sets of 2 holes working along from the middle allow for various mounting positions on the dovetail bar so that the centre of gravity can be shifted depending upon what is loaded on the saddle.

The whole job can be completed in a day then all you need to do is have it powder coated for a professional finish.
