Modifying Dobs

Hi, I'm keen to rust proof my Dob and would like to paint it etc. Any tips or pointers?

How difficult is it to take out the reflector and if delicate should I get help.... Anything else I should do while modifying it?

Nothing special about pulling the mirrors out and all the bits off. Obviously care needed to protect the mirror surfaces.
