:mad2:Hi all finally clear sky last night:)
A question... with celestron 8se goto the final approach are set as default alt and az both negative which means its approaching from left and down is that correct? changed to both positive which seems to me up and right. However when i do the 3 star alignment with base level and using the goto function the telescope misses the targeted star or object usually ends up about 1" under and off to right about the same distance. The observing location coordinates are from my gps which are S 17'00.934" (17'00.56)
and E145'.43.901" (145'43.54") any suggestions?
It is frustrating to put it mildly.

They will also recomend doing your alignments by approaching from a particular direction as this will remove backlash in the gears out of the equation and make it more accurate. Having said that, with both of my scopes (C8N-GT, C11-CGE) I have never bothered. The objects still end up in the eyepiece...so what the hey!

I guess it would be an interesting exercise to do a setup with and without using the final approach and see what difference it actually makes.

I think it is a faulty hand controller. slightly knocked on the mount leg and presto find all objects, how ever now 2 times in 4 hrs frozen up, second time it was showing transmitting data? Dont have a clue what it can be. contacted dealer with the alignment problem, still waiting to get back to me and find out what celestron have to say.
