Hey guyz just got a basic question I wanted to ask.
I was asked this the other day and wasnt sure how to answer it.
Well you know how the Americans were first on the moon, and they put their flag on the moon.
Is that flag still there today?? :confuse3:

Yep, it sure is. So are the footprints and everything else they left there. Because there's no atmosphere or wind there's no erosion, so they'll be there for millions of years.
The flag, the lunar rover etc are all still there, but you can't see them with your telescope, or any earth-bound telescope, or even hubble. They just don't have the resolution required to probe that deep.
You'd need a resolution of about 10 metres to see the lunar rover, but even hubble can only resolve down to about 90 metres.
One day they might build one big enough to see it, that would be waaay cool.

I think there are six flags on the moon - five are still standing. Apollo 11 planted their's too close to their ascent engine and it was knocked over. Okay, I've read this story somewhere but I'm not sure if it's true or not....

Imagine one day in the future these items are going to be seen as valuable artifacts ....hate to see them on ebay

Now that would be a salvage job and a half. Image the bucks that you could get from just the flags of all but Apollo 11. The Apollo 11 site should be protected forever. The other sites should be pillaged, sorry I mean salvaged.:D

That's a strange one Doug, haven't heard that one before! Conspiracy theory or true? :)

I think I heard about the A11 flag being knocked over in a documentary called "Moonshot", narrated by an actor representing Deke Slayton.

You are all assuming that the US actually went to the moon!
Not to bring up that old discussion but, flipping through the channels on TV last night before bed I saw a bit of a program where they were "debunking" the myth that someone had been to the moon...I couldn't watch more than a few minutes...

Of course they went to the moon. There is plenty of evidence that humans went to the moon. Rocks, telemetry from both the US and the Russians, Photography both on the moon and from orbit.
There is also the participation of over 400,000 personel that kept a secret for thirty five years. Fat chance of that.
Sure we went, if you look at the hoax type of programs they are not only not using physics incorrectly, but the so called experts that they have never been heard of.

apparently its gonna require a scope of about 100 meters in focal length to see those flags, or so ive read some where :)
