Seeing was aweful last night, like shooting through a bucket of water but I wanted to try out my new laptop running virtualdub to capture from my Toucam 840. In my opinion its the best program ever, better than Vega, K3ccdtools etc. Although the seeing was not the best I was able to capture at 10-15fps without a frame dropped. Pity the jetstream was not co-operating. Shot with 10"SCT and 2x converter and onion rings.

Yeah it was pretty abysmal Allan........the seeing that is :P
I've long been an advocate of Virtual Dub as capture software. Once you learn the way around it's cryptic settings layouts it does a great job. If only planetary imaging shook my a bit more these days might use it more often.

It was my first attempt in over 12 months to do some planetary imaging. It was only after using my new 5" APO on Saturn on a rare still night that I thought I would give it a go. I use Virtualdub to collect the Avis from my Watec 120N+ camera and I wondered if it would work with the Toucam. Easy as and Ive found it to be the best program out there bar none. A pity more people dont use it as its fast and doesnt drop frames.

mmm.. might give it a go...
Just wondering, does this happen to anyone else, or is it just me? When I look at a photo of Jupiter in the middle of all the black, as I shift my eyes about over Jupiter, it seems to grow and shrink, grow and shrink. Surely just an illusion created by the bright planet in the black background.
By the way, lovely photograph Alan.

Thanks for the comments guys. Here is a shot taken about 2 min before the original photo posted. Momentarily better seeing but still slight onions. Funny I couldnt smell them while I was taking the shot.;)
OK. VirtualDub look very well, but is not a frienly soft...:mad2:
I have tryed some time to use it with my Watec, but even I finished lost... and I return to my "easy for dummy" soft.
Know somebody a tutorial for the VD??

I agree Pelu it definitely isn't a very intuitive software program that's for sure.
