eta in HAr-rgb

Okay i have tried to incorporate my HA data with my rgb,s.
So i blended my red with my HA using my red as the top layer,then i brought the opaqueness down to about 25% in photoshop.
Then back in to maxim and used the HAr as a lum and colour combined it with my rgb,s .Only to realize i had 5 stars showing bloat in the green channel,so back into photoshop with the green channel,lassoed and feathered and used curves to get it reasonable it,s about as far as my skills allow me !Recombined in maxim and then played around in photoshop,anyway two days later this is what i come up with.Please click on the original for a full size image .:)

Now that turned out perdy Rob!!

I do things differently in PS when combining my Ha data to my Red channel but I think you've done well indeed.
This is excellent.
You've retained typical star colours about the whole image and looks just right across the whole field.

Very well done.

HaR blends are not always easy Rob. You've done well on this target. Though some of the highlights appear more hot pink that a deep red. Still visually pleasing. Good stuff.:thumbsup:

Hi Rob,

Here is a recent post by Rob Gendler which you may have already read on the SBig group but he mentions an approach to combining Ha that could be useful:

"You can layer over an RGB (or LRGB) version
over the high S/N regions. Alternatively what I've done more recently
is layer over traditional (or enhanced) RGB data over the h-alpha
composite using color mode. By doing this I've been able to restore
much of the vibrancy and range of the RGB to the h-alpha composite.
Rob Gendler."

I personally also find adding some O111 also adds vibrancy and glow to nebulas. I have ended up doing multiple layers of Ha as red, Ha as luminance and various blend modes - usually "screen" for red and luminosity for Ha as luminance. Then use the opacity sliders to suit the image. It is a tricky process hence my interest in Rob's post. The usual thing is for the stars to go a bit green and lose their colour (I think he and Russell Croman etc process the stars separately). Also the reds tend to be a bit salmon in colour. Doing 2 layers of Ha assigned to the red channel can deepen the red and also a bit more Ha as luminosity weakens the colour so you can fiddle with it until you get the effect you want.

You know, I am sure I saw this hanging on a wall at the Parkes Visitor Centre i.e is this a CWAS 2008 winner? If not, it should be!

I understand the problem well i.e blending HA and avoiding salmon pinks...I havent found a satisfactory solution yet, and I can even get Rob's description on his website to work properly!:mad2:

Fantastic FOV Rob with lots happening.
You look to have handled the HaRGB blend really quite well. The magenta and salmon pinks look quite natural and the overall colour of the nebula looks good to me. Ha blending is always a hard thing to do properly as Martin has mentioned, particularly when trying to match star sizes. The remnants of the green halos are not objectionable either.

Your trick to blend the Ha with the Red and use it as the Lum is exactly what I did in this Eta shot of mine:

Hi Rob,
This is one of the most beautiful Etas I've seen!! :eyepop:. I have two excuses for not looking at yours sooner, 1) I've been suffering a severe case of Eta burnout lately and been avoiding looking at them altogether. Even too much chocolate can make you sick - right?. ;) 2) I've been slaving away on my latest project - fighting fickle weather and horrible seeing all the way.

Anyway, this image is just marvellous!! BTW you're the Ha-blend man! I see vibrant colour with rich reds. Nice smooth field and pin point stars too. Gorgeous! :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

You have a good eye mike i am glad someone picked out my bloat remnants ,i will have to learn a better technique to get rid of them.
