First light with 20D---The dark Tower

Hi everyone,
Have been itching to test out the 20D and finally had a little time last night before the moon rise. Between poor seeing high cloud a a little mist I managed to get a hour in of the Dark Tower complex so its called.
This is a rather faint Ha area and it would need much more exposure to do it justice but was glad to actually image! :thumbsup: First chance this month due to all this bad weather..
Image is 10 x 6 min at iso 800 with my 6" newt and modded 20D (thanks Eric!).
Camera is a nice step up from the 300D with less noise to clean up.

Although, IMO, it looks more like one of those spaceships that you see in old Buck Rogers piccies:D:D

Excellent Gary. :thumbsup: Nice clean histograms present for the RGB channels. Good processing. My only comment is the bright stars. They look square. I don't recall seeing this in your previous posts. Have you investigate the root cause? Processing i.e canvas reduction or similar perhaps? Surely the 20D is sampled correctly against your optical configuration.

beautifulllllll!!! glad the 20D worked out for you Gary. The dark tower is a dim object and you've captured it nicely especially with your 6" scope!! yes, noise is much lower in the 20D than a 300D. very well composed.

Excellent DSLR image, star colours intact, bright and interesting framing.
I have a modded 20D as well and it is an extremely impressive camera.

I wonder how the modded 40D compares?

What is the RA and Dec of this object? I am not familiar with it.

Nice one Gaz,
good to see your rendition with the 6"er newt.
Colours look spot.
Lots of objects of interest around this immediate area.
Looks like the 20D is in good hands.

I know if the weather co-operates I could do so much better. That high cloud washes out the fainter detail and another hour should make a more pleasing image!
Looks like that horrid wind is back again with the clear skies :(
Shall redo it the next good night! :) with more data!
