Hi,
Not sure if this is the right section to ask this but will anyway,
Is there going to be or has anyone suggested in the past of having an ATM section so all those that do make their own scopes have an area to ask questions, submit ideas, and so others can look in and get ideas?
 :confuse2:

It's been suggested before, but it was a while ago when there were far less members, and far less ATM'ers.
If you can get enough "aye" in this thread, i'll add a new sub-forum for it.

l think having all the ideas in one area would be a lot better than having them scattered throughout the various threads, very easy to find for the newbies.

This site already has heaps of home made ideas and if they were all in one place that would be abosultely great.

Is a home made idea the same thing as amatuer telescope making? Most of what I see is mods to commercial gear with the notable exception of stringscope. (apologies to anyone else that I missed).

which is exactly why i've resisted until now, because we'll either see a lot of duplication between the ATM forum and the existing Equipment forum, or one will get posts and one won't.
I see "ATM" as not just "make your own telescope", but make your own telescope accessories too, like the perch chair, denver chair, homemade mounts/platforms, accessory cases/tables, etc.
Mods to commercial gear (like the mods to my scope for example) could be classified either way, it depends what people expect to see in an ATM forum.

I agree with Geoff on this one.
ATM is not the correct title, as it refers to Telescope making.
'Astronomy Projects' is closer to the Idea of what is wanted.
And while we are on the subject of what is needed in here Mike, what happened to the Glossary?????????

Come to think of it, Newbies won't know what ATM means!!!
How about:
'Telescope Making & Accessory Projects'

You get a big 'Aye' from me, Mike. Keep them all in one place! How about > 'Amateur Astronomical Accessories & Projects'? :D L.

Very Clever Slick! When I thought of using that yesterday it didn't sound right but now I see it written down it is perfect.

Glad you edited that Ken, DYI (do yourself in) just doesn't have the same ring to it. I guess DIY/Mods or similar would be ideal. I understand that some things people make money out of so cannot be replicated in the section. Maybe if anyone sees a website with information on making or moding something that would be useful.

Well, I dont really care what the title of the new section is.......as long as we get it. I'm sure the most appropriate name/title will be chosen by Mike.:D
And just to let you know my feelings on it...I'm voting TWICE! :P
AYE ! ;)

I think I was one of the first to suggest it to Mike a while back and as he said there wasn't enough interest with the few members at the time. I certainly think a ATM forum would be a nice addition to IceInSpace.

Andrew, you weren't suppose to notice my mistake :ashamed: that's why I corrected it fast :D (not fast enough apparently)
