ISS Evening Pass Heads Up!

The ISS looks like it might finally be coming back into phase for evening viewing for SE Australia. Two favourable passes are coming up on the evenings of June 24 and 26. Orbitron screen dumps are attached.

The pass on the 24th ends in eclipse at a high altitude unfortunately, but the sky will be darker.

Times in the screen dumps are for Oberon. Use Orbitron or Heavens-Above to get accurate times for your location.

The viewing this morning 0533 (Monday 16th) was brilliant! 3 minutes from the SSW to the ESE.
Getting up early again in the morning 0554, 5 minutes from SW to NNE (should be fantastic!)
Jupiter was a lovely sight as well.

One day while wasting time surfing the net for stuff I found this site. If you register, and give your location, it will tell you the time and direction to look for certain satellites including ISS.

Heavens above is a great site. I use it for all my ISS and Iridium Flare pass information.

Thanks for the heads-up, Al. Of course I missed the recent ones a few days ago due to more rain and clouds.

I just ran the predictions again in Orbitron, and thought I would update what the other evening passes are doing for others around the country...

22/6/08: Good pass for NT.
23/6/08: Good pass for North and mid Qld coast.
24/6/08: Good for SW Qld, NW NSW, down to Sydney.
25/6/08: Good for Adelaide.
26/6/08: Good for NSW coast esp. Sydney.
27/6/08: Good for Melbourne and Tassie.
28/6/08: Good partial pass for Tassie.

Check in Orbitron or www.Heavens-Above.com for details of times and directions at your location.

I was very lucky last night, out at one of our beaches with a group of visitors.
We had just finished looking at the "Maccasan" stone drawings, a very significant site for the local Yolngu people.

Looked up and there the IIS was, Straight overhead and bright as can be.
It was a real treat for everyone present !
What a contrast the ISS is to the Macassan sailing ships of old that plied a trade with the Yolngu people 200 years before jolly old Captain Cook set foot on their shores.

At the time I was observing cloud from horizon to horizon... I hadn't noticed wind of any standard other than the usual Force 4 to 5 on the Beaufort scale that we get here. But you know what they say about bad wind... you can get something from the chemist's for it...

(psst... don't say anything, but the cloud seems to be dispersing now:thumbsup::D:whistle:)

The wind probably blew them away! Fingers crossed.;) I might try the fisheye lens to see if I can capture the whole pass in one shot tonight.:)
