Mike Salway Published in US S&T!

So how's this for a first real post on this forum?

I've been a lurker here for quite sometime (usually frequent a US Based astro-forum), but couldn't help but post a huge Congrats to Mike Salway (Iceman if I recall correctly??).

I was thumbing through my July 2008 edition of Sky and Telescope and stumbled upon an awesome shot of Jupiter with the Great Red Spot prominently on display in the "Gallery" section of the magazine (page 94), then noticed that the author of the photo was Mike Salway.

So I thought I'd share and make sure all of you knew.;)

If this is old news, my apologies, I did try to find a post with this news earlier but couldn't find one... also if this isn't the right spot please move it where it belongs.

I tried to see if S&T's webpage had a link or had it in their image gallery, but I couldn't find it.

They list it as taken on the morning of March 18, 2008.

I knew there was an Australian version of the mag, but didn't realize it'd be that difficult to get.

As for the image, I haven't seen it in the mag myself, I'm assuming Sean has sent me a copy but sometimes it takes a while to get here.

You can only get the US version in Australia if you subscribe.

Congrats Mike, and thanks for the welcome. It's too bad that they twisted the image: they turned it upside down ( :lol: ) and they chopped off Ganymede :mad2:.

That's an AWESOME animation too.

I'm trying to convince my buddy to get a 12" DOB, and am providing him with a webcam (SPC900NC) for his BDay, with a couple of print outs of links as well (your Tutorial about Photography with a DOB is already included...). He thinks my feeble attempts at planetary imaging (http://www.flickr.com/photos/varmints_pics/2502955075/) with my C9.25 are "awesome", but they're not that great (still have lots to learn, and those posted are the "decent" one's, there's a whole mess of unpublishable one's there).
