What gives??
The ED80 Pro OTA and ED80/HEQ5 Pro package have both been removed from the Andrews Skywatcher page!
No mention of being "sold out" - just gone!!!

Sure, once I sold mine for almost nothing because of their low prices it's gone :-)
I was wondering while trying to sell mine where did they get so low wholesale price. Nobody else was offering it for $399, just them.

The ED80 is still there for $399, and the HEQ5Pro for $999, they just don't list the Pro packages. Lots of new stuff on the site though.
Cheers,
Jason.

He's just not calling it "Pro" anymore??
Is that correct?

Andrews in my opinion is providing a great service, his prices on most items are the best in Australia not to mention the free shipping offers. I only wish he could work out some way to get around the ridiculous pricing of Celestron gear in this country. At them prices one might as well buy Takahashi or AP products.

This sounds like an ED80 Pro to me.. I hope so, I am thinking of getting one with the HEQ5Pro mount..
< From andrews site >
Skywatcher ED80 and ED100 OTAs each have gold coloured tube, white tube rings, Crayford style focuser and 200mm long black aluminium dovetail mounting bar - no finder.
Premium quality refractor OTAs with fluorite FPL-53 lens!
ED80 discounted even more!!
ED80 x 600 OTA only...A$399

yeah its an unbeatable scope for $399... some department stores sell absolute rubbish around that price...

Umm, you might find that the ED80 on sale there has always been there at $399 while the PRO ED80 was listed further down (but isnt now) at $599 with the included aluminium carry case.
I know, because I have been watching both of these suckers for a long time as the cheapest ED80 around for the Skywatcher Pro brand which is as far as I am aware, different from the one still listed which states that it is GOLD in colour like the PRO model.
I wouldnt count your chickens then. Better check first.

if it arrives and its not gold - go them for false advertising :P lol

oh - a side note, there is NO difference between a SW ED80 and ED80 pro besides color and accessories. The optics are EXACTLY the same.

Well maybe Robin's "rumour" has some substance then? It certainly is listed as gold etc etc but no finder?
Hmmmmm.....ponder some more I will.
Side side note: Andrews has the EQ6 packages for only $200 more than the equivalent HEQ5 Pro package. Not bad considering the $400 difference between the two mounts as separate items!! :eyepop:

I just called them and they are out of the gold tube ED80s. If the optics are the same in the pro and non-pro versions then it shouldn't make much difference. I would still prefer the gold tube and kit though.. I wonder if the pro accessories can be found elsewhere.

Is there any physical difference between the SW EQ5 and the Celestron CG5 mounts?

Steve, Went into the post today... I am to expect it before the weekend according to Andrews.... !!

Both mounts built around basic EQ5 guts.
Sturdier legs on CG5.
CG5 has no wires running from input box to motors like SW EQ5.
Some reviews/reports have noted that the SW motors are quieter than the CG5 "coffee grinder"!!
Celestron software has more features than the SW Synscan one I think.
Some CG5 owners report strange slewing behaviour!!
I own the SW and it hasn't missed a beat since purchase. But I did do the astronomyboy tune up to ensure best performance. Recommended to be done on a CG5 too I think!
CG5 looks a lot nicer:P
See attached pics for comparison...
#1 Celestron CG5
#2 Skywatcher Synscan EQ5

Thanks for the clarification Doug. There appears to be a bit of a price differential between the goto forms of these mounts now.

Me neither... :D
I've also ordered a 5x powermate... but that may not arrive for till tuesday/wednesday next week. Just considering what I need next... 12" OTA or a higher resoloution planetary imaging camera like a DBK31... Decisions Decisions...

I keep telling ya!,
If you need some really nice Jupiter shots and you have all that money laying around, why not invest in a remote (Sydney based) 10 inch collapsible DOB which already has a Toucam and laptop and accessories ready to go.
.........
are you buying this?
......
Dang!
