Hi guys, I've been playing around with my 2 week old dob, and my 3 year old camera, and with tonight being really clear, I decided to once again try to get some photos of the moon. I have the T-adapter, but for some reason with that on, I can not prime focus on the moon, need to wind the focuser further into the tube than it will actually go.

So instead, I put in my 26mm EP, folded back then rubber surround, and then help my camera up to the EP (i need to get a decent tripod:P)and got the attached image (and lots of other images also that I'm going thru.

What do you guys think of my first image post - hopefully many more to come

Nice work Alex, especially for afocal (camera and lens held to eyepiece) astro photography.

It seems that the design of most Newtonian type telescopes causes problems with not enough inward focus travel. Some people get around this by purchasing a low profile focuser and low profile camera adapter, or by moving the Primary mirror further up the tube, so that the light cone projects further out of the tube at the eyepiece end, although the secondary mirror may then “miss” some of the light cone.

Cheers

Great first pic Alex...

I had the same problem with my D50/D80 however using a low profile camera adapter I was able to achieve focus nicely. Let me add, with the dob and the camera attached, every time you fire the shutter the scope shakes, and blurs any images shot below 1/40th of a second.

Your afocal result is quite nice indeed, very sharp towards the dark limb!

I like it alot.

Good start and keep them coming!

Great shot, the moon is probably the most photographed celestrial body but every photo taken appears different
