12-6-08 Jupiter+GRS.. average seeing again.. (at least there is seeing!!)

Same sort of night tonight as last night, I was toying with focus a bit tonight.. couldnt seem to get it perfect, then I realised after looking through the EP, it wasnt lack of focus... It was Jupiter doing its best imitation of a bowl of jelly...

Regardless... Heres Jupiter this evening..

umm.. NSW cant blame the weather for their dismal performance... They were after all, in brisbane.... (Im a NSW supporter..its closer to my home state)

I got another pic.. This one was one of the earlier AVI's (I should really start processing in order of capture...

EDIT : WOOOO 500th post! And it was well spent posting my best jupiter to date... :D

Fantastic results, Alex. I really love the second one. They have the distinctive look of being captured without tracking but they're very very good for no tracking. Once you have tracking you will have very good results immediately.

I was out last night but concentrated on the Moon from around 8:00pm to 9:00pm and the seeing was quite good at times, approaching 7/10 in the good moments. It soon deteriorated after around 9:00pm and by the time Jupiter cleared the trees, it was a wobbling jelly.

I plugged in the DBK AF2104.AS and recorded a few AVI’s but haven’t bothered looking at them as they didn’t look too promising. You certainly seem to have captured more detail and clarity of features that I would have expected for these conditions – well done!

Hi Alex,

Great shots once again, I keep telling you, if you rotate the final image using registax before saving and get the bands lined up horizontal, noone would know that you dont have an EQ mount and are doing this on a dob.

Then again, its still pretty cool what you can image through a DOB. They said it cant be done. You certainly debunk that theory.

Thanks guys. I'm increasingly more happy with my results every day..

I am dying in wait for my EQ6 to come into stock... The wait is painful, long and tedious, But what can you do.. I assume that the lack of finer detail in the bands is coming from the slight motion blur as jup slides through the FOV of the camera...

I stuck the C11 out the back at 4.30pm..ample time to cool down for Joop.

Looks gorgeous tonight..wobbles like my mum at her belly dance lessons but damn it was good to see it again!

I so need a dew heater though!

The bar fits the rings I have, and its the same length bar that others have used with the same newt as mine, So for the minute I'll say, Its perfect :) Still waiting painfully/patiently for my EQ6... week and a bit away still... But IIRC you said the bar is from an EQ6, so I guess it will be awesome! Cant wait to get AVI's of jupiter longer than 6 seconds... :D
