Hi All
This was taken on the first night I had my D300. The Storm was over the Northern beach's of Sydney so I was able to use the lens at 135-200 to get some great shots. This one is the best storm shots I have taken

another shot. This time a cheat. a layered image of 2 seperate images. Individually they are good but the combined looks almost as good as the real shot.
That first one is brilliant. Nice catch.

Maaate!! What a stunning pair of pics!!
How do you find the D300.. im considering selling one of my many dslr's to make room for one...
What kind of exposures were your shots there? I usually use 5 - 8 sec exposures around F8, but thats with a 50mm lens, I've never used such a high focal length to capture storms. You've pulled it off brilliantly!
Well done.

For the storm I used a 30 second exposure at f8. The live view function helped the focus. The first photo was shot at 135mm and the second composite image was shot at 200mm. I was only able to use the 135-200mm range as the storm about 20km south. I know the storm was around Hornsby area just prior to the first photo being taken as I was chatting to Miriam my Wife as she left work and the storm was near her at that time.
This photo has been processed beyond hell but it does still look ok and gives you an idea of what i saw with the eye. i processed it in HDR from a single raw image then shot it with curves and levels in cs2.

It won't let me send you a PM, but would you be willing to send me a full res picture of the first picture? I swear I won't use it for anything but my desktop background - it's simply amazing! I took a picture the other night that had a single line of lightning across it that doesn't even come close to comparing, and i was super excited!
if you're willing to help me out, could you email (mailto:colosimo@princeton.edu) me?
