EQ6 Pro Altitude Adjustment Knob

I have found that when I am Polar or Drift Aligning my EQ6 Pro, it is very difficult to adjust the altitude knobs to move the mount up or down.

I always loosen the opposite knob before adjusting but I it seems like the knobs are jammed. When I don't have the scope and counterweights on the mount it takes no effort to adjust the altitude.

I was just wondering if any other EQ6 owners have this problem?

I rarely adjust mine but last time I did it moved ok - as you say it is going to be tight with all that weight on it. Try loosening both bolts without the load and check the mount moves in Alt.

Check your balance, particularly in RA. Sounds to me you are either counterweight heavy or scope heavy, probably counterweight. When you are set up and drifting, try lifting the counterweight bar or pressing down on it and see if that changes anything. Also always loosen the bolt on the south side of the mount and adjust with the bolt on the north side.

I got a pair of these http://www.starstuff.com.au/eqaccessories.html. They make adjusting DEC far easier than the flimsy small adjusters supplied with the mount.

When there's a heavy weight on the EQ6, they are very hard to move cause they're a horrible design. I replaced both my alt and az knobs with bolts from bunnings.

I also bought a small ratchet to tighten/loosen them.

Works well.

Will it adjust one way but not the other?

I found that if I didn't have the balance near perfect it was a bugger to adjust. I had to help support the weight with one hand while adjusting with the other.
When balanced right it was tight but adjusted okay.

Don't give up mate..keep at it.!

I always try to get the balance near perfect before use. I find that adjusting the the altitude to make the mount go up is the most difficult.

When I was drift aligning yesterday. I adjusted the Azimuth until there was no drift without any problems. When trying to adjust the Altitude, it seemed like both knobs were jammed making it almost impossible to correct the Altitude.

Even when I loosen the opposite knob it is still very hard to adjust.

I was so close to getting polar aligned for the first time it wasn't funny! :sadeyes:

We had the same trouble with our EQ6 and Anthony at Bintel Melb. removed the adjusting bolts, cleaned them and added a lubricant.
They have been great since this was done.

I just removed both the Altitude knobs and gave them both a thorough clean and put on a lubricant.

As I was putting them back on the mount. I found that the longer knob was slighty bent. That might explain why it is so difficult to adjust?

I think it may be a good idea to replace them.
