Hi All,

Here's a quick shot of the crescent Moon near 4th magnitude v Gem this evening. Taken with a Pentax K100D and 300mm telephoto. Captured the Earthshine as well.

Cheers,
Stephen

At new moon the majority of the moon facing earth is not illuminated by the sun so should be completely dark but it isn't, why? Because it reflects Earth's light. This is called earthshine & was first explained by Leonardo da Vinci.
