Hello All,

After a bit of a break from astronomy, I am finding myself 'watching the skies' more and more lately, so I have (almost!) decided on a 6" short tube refractor.

I know, I know, I should get a dob, but I want something a bit more transportable, plus (and this is REALLY stupid) I just like the look of it better.

Anyway, I want to get an alt-az mount for it, as my style is (at least it used to be) along the lines of see a shiny thing, point my telescope at it, hooray, a planety/fuzzy thing!

So, what would be a good med-heavy duty (the OTA weighs 15kg) alt-az mount for it? I saw a GSO one at Andrews for $250 that looks okay, but remember the frustration of a wobbly mount and don't want to return to Disapointment Town (population - me).

Anyone have any ideas (other than get a dob)?

The GSO one is as sturdy as it gets for alt az, unless you're looking to spend three times as much or more.

Edit wow thats quite heavy! You're up for serious coin to adequately mount that scope.

yep that seems mighty heavy for a 6" my 11" SCT weighs in at about 12.5kg.
Do you mean Lbs?

I suspect it probably is pounds - I am getting it from china and quite a lot gets lost in translation...
