Yes, it's a Happy occasion indeed, I get to wish my brother Phil Happy Birthday for today, but as well as that I can also say...

Congratulations on the arrival of your first (real) telescope yesterday, and it's subsequent & successful First Light last night!
:stargaze:

(His scope is a brand new 12" GSO dob with 10:1 fine focus and all the other bells and whistles, a fine choice indeed! ;) )
:party2:

Just got to talk you up to eventually getting an Argo Navis now .... we'll discuss that another time ;)

Anyway bro, hope it's been a great day - apart from working - and even more superb outback viewing tonight. Say G'day to those lovely dark Centralian skies of yours for me!

Many thanks for the Good Vibes, brothers. Just having a quick check of the forums while I have tea and then it's outside for a bit of exploration.
You'll all be pleased to know that the Antient Curse of the Eldritch Weather Gods Against New Optics is still alive and in action. I picked the scope up yesterday and the clouds started rolling in almost straight away. Cleared up a bit last night but the seeing was far from ideal. Today has been much the same but it's still worth the cold to have a bit of a look tonight.
When you've got a brand new 12" scope, any seeing is good seeing!
Have decided to christen it - Macropod. (Latin for "big foot" )
Also the scientific name for that famous Aussie - the kangaroo. Seems apropriate given that I'm a star hopper as opposed to a go to.
When I get over the new toy thrill, I'll send in an observation report.:):D;):thumbsup:

Here's more Good Vibes for your birthday. :birthday::jump:

Those weather gods aren't particular about who they curse. Last weekend at Bargo I was trying my new (secondhand) Vixen Sphinx, Ray was trying out his new 15cm Skywatcher Mak and someone else had a new WO 100mm apo. Needless to say, at about the time Ray and I had the setup sorted and the other bloke was half way through his first image, in rolled the cloud.

This week I had the change to go to the postgrad retreat at a nice dark-sky site. I considered taking my car and scope - I could always sleep during the talks ;). Needless to say it is bucketing down on the whole east coast :mad2:. Ive had to be 'dedicated' and stay in the lab. (How do I love headspace equilibrations - let me count the ways).

Anyway, once again, Happy Birthday :birthday:
