Anyone see the doco Sunday night on "temperature"?

I can't remember the name of it now that I am at work, but I was checking out the TV guide last night around 8:00 when I came upon it. Too late to bother to post something, but I think it is two parts so you might catch the second part next weekend. It sounded like it might prove interesting...and I don't think it clashed with Big Bother :lol:

I got it on tape, so I might be able to watch it tonight and will let you know if you missed anything.

It's called "Absolute Zero". Much more interesting than it sounded from the TV guides, too - some of those SBS docos are as dry as ......... [insert very dry descriptor of your choice!].

I wasn't planning on viewing it at all, but got hooked by the part about ice harvesting from frozen US lakes and ice export worldwide, before the days of compressor refrigeration. I'd heard from local history that US ice came as far as the WA goldfields, with only insulation stopping it melting - astonishing to see the old movie footage of such a large-scale, human-powered operation in action.

Definitely worth a look next week when they move further down the Kelvin scale.

At least now I know why "Birdseye" is called "Birdseye", and why there are "Carrier" air conditioners!

Yes, it was fascinating about how ice was harvested from lakes and sent around the world...they must have had some great insulation to be able to get ice from America to India so someone could put an ice cube in their drink! I would have thought it would be easier to harvest ice from the Himalayas.:shrug:

It was definitely worth watching, the second part should also be worthwhile.
