Well, isn't that tough to choose! For me there's a definite leader and a close second, but choosing the 3rd and 4th... that was tough!
Some great entries people!

Wow – thank you! Thank you to everyone who liked the photo and voted for it. Thanks also to all the entrants for a dazzling array of entries, given such a tricky subject for the month. In particular, I simply adored looking at all the bird photos; the detail was simply stunning, each one having a unique character – top shots.
I was very lucky to have grabbed the photo of a black winged stilt, just after take off as it flew low over Lake Cootharaba where we spent a week camping at the end of May. I managed to snap 3 quick shots with this one being the best.
For those interested, it was taken with a Canon 40D with 70-200 F4L set to 200mm, 1/1250 sec at F10, ISO400, Program Mode, hand held.
Okay, the subject for the June challenge is something close to our stomachs…FOOD!
Cheers

Thanks Alex – well not that easy; Tony’s dynamic portrait of an “incoming” (hungry?) Butcher Bird was a beaut and I reckon without the distracting background, could easily have been the winner.
I would love to have seen the amazing Pelican photo processed more to reveal the detail under the wings. I did this in CS3 and it transformed the photo quite dramatically. Shame we can’t offer each other some advice on how to optimise the entries whilst the comp is running.

Thanks Ric – yes, it was quite a fortuitous capture and probably one that required the full array of automation that I had; auto focus, auto exposure etc. I shudder to think how much film I would have wasted in the old 35mm film days, with manual focus. LOL!

Thanks Tony – I loved your “incoming” photo!
I did have one or two ethereal moments earlier in the morning when the lens dewed up! After taking it out from the boot of the car (at the campsite), the glass just couldn’t keep up with the rapidly rising air temperature and so it fogged over!

Thanks Ron – Elanda Point is a beautiful place and on that day, nature certainly turned on the magic for me. It will be great to catch up with again at Astrofest.

Thanks Al – in my case, it was lucky “13” and I loved your entry “14” – artistic and thinking outside of the square.

Hey, there's no reason we can't do that after the comp has closed is there?;) I think that would be an educational variation on the comp...
Al.
I knew it would win as soon as I saw it.
Congrats Dennis, a superb capture !
Great topic again this month.
That is a great idea, would be very beneficial indeed (as long as the OP doesn't mind).
