Rho Ophiuchus Complex

Hi Guys, I had a go at the Rho Complex last night, however I'm not sure if it is supposed to be quite like this, your comments would be appreciated.

I know I'm way off target, don't quite know how that happened, :shrug:

Anyway, I took 16 exposures at 7 minutes each, however I lost 6 because of high cloud moving in whilst I wasn't looking, and the rising Moon.:whistle:

This image consists of 10 exp @ 7mins each through the Tak, and using the 5D, (modded) at 400 ISO, guided on the G11, with the Philips Toucam.

So please be critical and let me know if it is acceptable.

Absolutely gorgeous! I can only hope that with some evening work coming up I can finally afford a Digital SLR to have a hope of even coming close to this.

Well thank you very much for your kind comments, so my early morning paid off, it is a shame I lost 6 frames though, should have been more observant.

The clouds were very fine and hazy, and the guide scope still hung onto the guide star, so I wasn't alerted of the danger, well that is my story and I'm sticking to it :whistle:

And Houghy, no mate losing Antares was an accident, I couldn't fine a good guide star so it had to slew the mount around a bit here and there till i could find on the lock onto. :lol: :lol:

Looks great to me Leon. I like the deep purply blues merging into the reds and I think maybe having Antares in the frame may have lost some of the subtlety of the image. Sometimes the best things happen without really trying ay !

Thanks guys, I appreciate your comments, I have deleted the link, as I am having some problems getting it to function, I'm still pretty new at this stuff, so in the mean time I will just post normally until I figure it out.

Monoxide, trust me it was an accident didn't mean to leave out Antares, but have to agree it seems quite nice without it, I must say.

A fine image Leon, it's very smooth and the focus looks spot on.

The subtle hues of the purples and reds and the way they blend looks fantastic.

Many thanks again Guys, I wasn't sure about this one, first time I have tried it actually, but I have to admit it is appealing, even if I do say so myself.

Ric, I have to agree the focus on this set up is so easy, it just seems to snap in when it is right, and just for anyones information I only use my poor old eyes, never used focusing software, ever, just the canon angle finder off the back of the camera.

Sorry mate, I've been busy with work lately and have also been sick so haven't replied to many posts but I've come back today to see this lovely image.

I did a similar shot from last month that I haven't finished processing yet because of work.
Unfortunately I didn't get enough frames to get good detail, the sunrise beat me. :lol:
I'll post it when finished.

Anyway mate well done and keep up the great work, now you're cooking with gas.

Well done especially for just focusing through the viewfinder, I take short test images and adjust focus then try again till stars are sharpest (camera is plugged into laptop for this)

Thanks Scott, yea mate I have never used any sort of computer aided focusing, it works very well.

Ah yes, the Takahashi dose a great job, actually, I prefer it over the Canon 300mm F/2.8, however they are both top bits of glass, thanks for the comment.
