Here's another angle...

Or is it going around it ?

Any idea if this former comet had a name ?

Well actual no comets hit the sun , they break up gravitationally and evaporate long before they get there.

Interesting nonetheless.

Vet/Father,

You should of saved the image from the first link as it has updated now with
no comet to be seen. The second link took too long to download, for me
anyways.

Here and image from Lasco C3 taken as the now famous comet McNaught
passed through the field on 13/01/07.

its a new Kreutz group comet, generally only seen/noticed when close to sun in these space observatory pics, which happen a fairly often, its a damn good one tho!! - i think designation might be SOHO 1465? thanks for posting that!

This comet is the subject of a SpaceWeather article on 25th May, accompanied by an excellent 2MB animated gif of the action.

Very cool!!!

The comet is still there in the first link - you just have to wait for it :-)

Nice flaring (technical term:-)

Looked to me like it was a pretty close shave - don't think he made it...

Wow!!! In the second link is that a shock wave coming off the sun in frame 16?? I like the way the tail changes direction on the other side of the sun after the impact.
