Hi guys,

The Eq6 comes with a DC power cord but the connector is a car cigarette light plug.
Is there an adapter for this to use household power, or external battery power pack recommended.

Was wondering what price and whether I can get this from Bunnings or Jaycar.

Is there anything else recommended also ?

Cheers

Hi,

Basically just get the highest rated jumpstarter battery you can buy. The more amp hours the better. a 16 amp hour one powering just the mount should be good for a whole night.

You can get a home power adaptor but since you will probably go bush at some time with the mount, dont bother, save your money and get the jumpstarter instead. Its easier to use than lugging a great big extension cord around anyway.

Just popped down to SuperCheap; they have a 38Amp/hr Rechargeable 12V or 240V 1900 Amp Jumpstart for $155

Also a 1200 AMP for `$139 roughly.. Didnt see any 1900 in stock though.

Would this be suitable at a good price?

Strictly speaking you want a deep cycle battery. I see these starting units at star parties all the time so they must be effective but a deep cycle battery will last longer and they are designed for constant drain not sudden hi-amp starting loads. Some smart cookies buy a battery box and make it all quite attractive with inbuilt charger and volt meter.

Hi,

I have both a jumpstarter and a gel deep cycle.

I use the jumpstarter for my mount and heater strap. Its a 19 amp hour pack from supercheap and runs all night. Cost 110 AUD a year ago and still going strong.

The deep cycle gel battery is 24 amp hour and powers my SBIG and laptop. Cost 120 AUD from Jaycar.

Either one would be fine for you. The benefit of the deep cycle is that there is less to go wrong. It's just a battery and you need to purchase a charger and cigarette adaptor which bumps up the price. The jumpstarter is better value for money. Mine includes a charger, USB adapor, light, jumper leads and female lighter plug. Of course if you dont get a good quality one then little things can go wrong, like the charge socket fails and so on.

I would say the gel is probably the more robust option. However I have used my jumper pack to also start the car and found it usefull while camping to charge my phone and of course it has a light. Probably if I didnt have a jumper pack I would get one as they are very usefiul items.

Sorry If I have confused you, basically either a gel from jaycar or a jumper pack from supercheap would be fine. As I said before, get the highest capacity one you can find as you will want to power other things as well, like dew straps for instance.
