First try at using H alpha, 13nm Astronomic, through the 12 inch newt...and my new QHY8
i know everyone puts them up as a mono , but i actually like it more with a red tint to it. bit over an hour of total exposure. Shot under a FULL moon, in cold and very damp conditions.
When the moon is not quite so bright will try other targets.... they are a bit hard to find manually when its so bright.

the blurry bit at lower right is frosting on the chip.... i opened it in the observatory to clean off the dust motes ( not while chip was cooled), but it appears the air was damp enough to cause a problem, will assemble it in a warmer location next time. No flats or darks applied because of this.... still pleased with the result.

This Ha seems a real goer, I can see heaps of details in that image :)

Brilliant.
Well, no more help for you.
What was the settings and times....Remember the less able....
But i cant get the whole image, just the right half.

Well done Clive.
And Naughty for not cleaning the sensor properly. At least you opened it up while it wasnt powered..

thanks for looking......

For the settings and times
Gain 50 Offset 117 ( i have written an article on how to set this; iceman will put it up once its been proof read, spell checked, and whatever else is needful)

6 min exposures about 12 i think?

As theo said i let in some moisture AND had cleaned the sensor gently with a microfibre cloth..... leaving some oil from my fingers probably and this attracted the moisture once it got COLD (like about -40 deg C:whistle:) the solution kindly supplied by theo was to clean with Metylated spirits and assemble in a warm room (real warm)...... shot another set of images and no problems :)

thats about all i can think of relevance
