August Challenge Object - NGC6025

Hi all.

We'd love you to take part in the August Observing and Imaging Challenge (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/index.php?id=69,224,0,0,1,0). Please post your reports, sketches and deep-space images of NGC6025 in this thread. Discussions about the images can also be in this thread.

Please ensure the images obey the posting guidelines when you attach them.

While it would be nice if the report, sketch or image were taken in the month of August, it's not essential so feel free to post older reports and images if you're unable to take some new ones.

Thanks Ed ! I don't know the colour just doesn't look right :confuse3: these clusters always look better at the eyepiece to me .

maybe the colour is something to do with processing?

Nice Louie. I have observed this but have yet to start sketching open clusters (other than a few notables like M7, Jewel Box, etc.). I find them very pretty at the ep but very hard to capture their essence in a sketch.....

Me either David,

If I had wanted to be a great artist I would have bought an easel not a telescope. I can appreciate that sketching helps people that have that talent to become better observers, unfortunately my 8yr old is an infinitely better artist than I and he is terrible.

I take my hat off to people with Darren and John's sketching ability, absolutely wonderful stuff.

Thanks for the compliment John. It takes a lot of time to sketch. I reckon I take anywhere from 10-15 minutes for a quick rough sketch and an hour at least on a more detailed sketch of complex objects that require different magnifications to bring out the detail. But O'Meara is the real master here :)

Knowin That today would bring rain i decided to get some viewing in thru what would turn out to be a large suckerhole... with ngc 4945 out of the way i cruised up to 6025. I didnt use a chart or anything I just knew approximately where it was. drifting up from the pointers this cluster shows in my finder clearly as a smallish blob. I think tha it was duse to the poor seeing conditions that this cluster proved to be bland. quite a few stars resolved though and the cluster is actually quite large and bright filling about 3/4 of the field of view in my 15mm SV. there are some quite bright stars in the cluster which probably made finding it in the finder easy.
I'll go back when the seeing is better and once again a wider FOV might have been advantageous...

NGC6025 a striking 15arcmin wide open cluster in Triangulum Australe , even though its competing with the cities skyglow from my vantage point and a waxing moon its still quite distinctive . The cluster to me has a hourglass shape with a mixture of straight and curved patterns of stars , in a way it reminds of a miniature Orion complete with a bow , this was best revealed tonite with a 80mm refractor using a 14mm meade UWA eyepiece yeilding 43x with a true feild of 1.7 degrees. Nice contrast with a 10 inch SCT scope using a 22mm nagler at 113x , shape was still noted . Couldnt sight the nearby planetary nebula NGC5979 . :
