homebrew Crayford

I recently finished a Crayford focuser for my 100mm F/6 RFT - picture attached in case anyone is interested. All the components came from Bunnings except for the focuser knob. The tube is PVC pipe with 50mm inside diameter. The bearings are shower door wheels, and the focuser knob is the barrel from an old pencil sharpener (nothing but the best for my RFT!). It is about as smooth as a GSO focuser, but about half the weight.

Now if you'd just home brew up an ethos to replace that crappy one that really detracts from the hightech look of the focusser ;)

A fine effort, but I have to agree with Steve, send me down the Ethos and I'll swap you some PVC pipe and lenses and you can McGuyver up an EP fitting for the crayford.:P

Yes, the knob ALMOST, but not quite, matches the colour of the tube.

I manufactured this scope's tube & dewshield by rolling an aluminium sheet around a bottle of red wine, so I had to paint it red. Hence it was previously christened the 'winoscope' on this forum. The objective is the Surplus Shed one & is a sensational deal (US $79). It exhibits a bit of CA at high power, but is perfect for an RFT. They have a 127mm one now too for US $119.
