Just going over the Harbour Bridge on the train, and looking out to the East saw the beautiful full moon rising just over the horizon.
What a lovely sight, especially with the "moon illusion" making it appear massive in the sky.
Get outside and take a look!

It's only just visible above the houses on the other side of the road.
Another 10 minutes might be worth a picture.

That is funny...I was thinking the same thing on my drive home.
The moon did look big and spectacular tonight...even bigger than normal. I know it is an illusion but it was still pretty cool!
Very nice.... until you start thinking about DSO's!
Nice piccys Houghy, some nice detail in them.
Cheers

Funny, almost 13 hours later and now i'm on my way back to work looking out the window of the train to the West and see the lovely full moon setting.
It looks massive across brisbane water, a pale yellow colour from the atmosphere with a georgeous reflection in the water. Wish I had a camera!

hi houghy, those pics are great. can I ask if you used any special settings or post processed. When I tried a similar shot to get the trees in the foreground I just got a huge white glow for the moon?
I don't envy your commute Mike!

Me neither, Lee.. I'd certainly prefer to be working closer to home, but the lifestyle of the central coast combined with the opportunities in Sydney make it pretty much mandatory.
At least I can use the time on the train to do constructive stuff.. work, IIS, browse forums, process images, etc. :)
The NextG wireless card made the commute much more bearable. :)

Interestingly, the current full moon is the smallest full Moon of the year !
Known as the "Corn" or "Flower" Moon in some cultures.
Always worth a look and gives some great photo opportunities.
Nice shots Houghy !
I will have to learn to appreciate my 10 minute commute to work more Mike ;)
Excellent pics Houghy, love the detail you got on the moon's surface.
Handheld no less !!!!
Mike you need a nice little Point & Shoot to have with you all the time.
