hey... this was my first attempt at a dslr shot of the stars...

I say crude because the camera was propped up ontop of my laptops dew box, with a wedge shaped rock holding it at the right angle to take the shot...

set the delay shutter release, 15sec, 70mm f4 ISO400...

In hindsight, iso200 would have probably been better.. or maybe 12~13sec to reduce trails... but im pretty impressed, as in the full res image, you can see eta carinae, the jewel box, a few other clusters and whilst its not "split" you can tell acrux is a double...

I would have the camera on a tripod had someone not swiped it at the last photography meet I went too...

Cheers for any feedback.
Alex.

Ps. i can upload the 2.5mb 3008x2000 jpg for anyone interested.. just ask.

Great results Alex. That camera seems pretty sensitive.

Rocks do work well :)

Well done. This is of interest to me as I just bought a Canon A720IS snappy which has a 15sec max exposure, and was interested to see what it could do.

Maybe I shouldn't try it as it could be the start of a long slippery slope over to the dark side :scared:

Nice first images Alex, hang onto that rock it looks like it the right angle for your latitude.

Cheers

Thanks for the responses, Yeah the rock is now in my big box 'o' gear... looks somewhat out of place besides lenses, dslr, ep's and a laptop...
