Astronomik dropin front filters:

(they do 300D, 350D, 400D, 450D, 20D, 20Da, 30D, 40D)
Anyone using these , are you happy with their performance ?

I would love a Hutech IDAS LPS filter - they get such a good rap!
40D filters tend to be a wee bit more expensive as they need a filter holder to fit the camera.
Installation looks fiddly from the Astronomik link!!

I noticed that , but they certainly would beat having to have multiple filters (a big one for each telephoto (for me probaby 3 of these , and a 2" to go in front of the coma corrector) , the potential is there to save some real $.

Absolutely - if I get any filters they will be the camera body clip-in type.
The hutech lps clip in filter for 40D is $289US FYI.
And, as I remember Eric(ezystyles) is selling the 40D clip in daylight filter (for normal use of modded dslr) on his site for $200AU

Huteck say any xx-FF1 will fit the 40D.
Front Filters for Hutech/Canon 40D
UIBAR-FF1 UV/IR Blocking Filter
LPS-P2-FF1 Light Pollution Suppression Filter .... I like this one
LPS-V3-FF1 Nebula Filter .... this one too
VLC-FF1 Daylight Filter
IR72-FF1 Infrared Filter (720nm) .... I'm not sure what benefit this one would be in an unmodded 40D used in astrowork.
DP-FF1 Dust Protector (Clear multicoated)
FF1 Front Filter Holder for 40D

thanks doug for the recommendation.
All FF1 Hutech filters are specifically for the 40D only. It will not fit in a 350d/20d/30d etc etc.
The daylight filter is like the x-nite front filter to convert the modified camera back to stock standard as though it hasnt been modified.
Note, if you decide to use a front filter, you cannot use EF-S lenses as it will hit the filter. Only compatible with EF lense.

Which would you recommend (for an UNmodded 40D) for widefield stuff ?
I'm thinking a LPS-P2-FF1 & LPS-V3-FF1 for astrophotos with the telezoom .

Hi Ian, I have used the 2" version of LPS2 . This filter works a treat . LPSv3 is an update of LPS2 different wavelength cut. Although I havent tried this filter, version 3 is always better than version 2??
