Hi All, now I have this DSLR and soon should be able to piggy back it on my c9.25, thought I'd ask for suggestions for good deep-sky targets that are well-located for this time of year in the evening.

I have 17-70 and 55-200mm lenses. What do you think is a good first target for a beginner (at least to DSLR)?

Rob, any of the larger, brighter faint fuzzies will do. Things like eta Carina, M6/7, M8, the planets, the Galaxy itself, the Moon, whole constellations....dozens of things:D

Depends on what you want to see in the piccies and the FL of your lens.

Rho Ophiuchus complex ;) :thumbsup:

Lambda Centauri emission nebula @ 70-100mm.

Scopius and Sag @ 17mm

Corona Australis @ 70 - 200 mm

I agree with Paul, these are nice targets for piggyback imaging.
Just make sure you secure the camera tight so it won't slip as you slew and also balance the scope properly for that part of the sky.

I recently did Rho Ophiuchus with an 85mm (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=31656)and the 135mm (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=31813)and I'm hoping to do Corona Australis next.
