First 'proper' astro pictures

Hullo all,
These are taken with my new toy a 350d (unmodded) a 50mm lens at f2.2
20 second exposures at iso 1600 stacked in DSS. No tracking, just a tripod, the cam, and me. Niceish night out, couple of meteors, but a fair bit of cloud moving through. Let me know how bad these are for a first attempt! :)

First is OK, second and third is out of focus.
Apart from that, you have embarked on an expensive road my friend.. Tred wisly, as the money will vanish into thin air.
Thus is the imaging side of the hobby..

Fixed tripod shots is how I started too :) Nice results.

They're better than my first attempts with film 20 years ago on a tracking mount. Even a crude "barn door" tracker will see you improve on this dramatically. You can also stop down the lens by about 2 stops and take longer exposures. This will improve the edge of your frame a lot.

Cheers guys I have an old eq mount with an ra motor that I'll piggy back on when I get around to it. Will definitely stop down the lens a bit see how we go.

Like the others have said ... good start, once you start thought..... And yeah, suggest stopping the lens down a bit and improving on focus should be top priorities.

I was at the Mt. Pleasant radio scope last night doing some IVS'ing and couldn't resist a quick shot... single 30 second exposure while the scope sat still and cooperated for once ;) Don't look too close or you'll see the stars trail I fear!
