I was just browsing Andrews Communication website and almost fell off my chair.

The EQ6 Pro is now at $1499! :scared: http://www.andrewscom.com.au/site-section-10.htm

Great news if you are currently looking an EQ mount like me.

:scared: woohoo thanks Matty. Ive had my eye on purchasing an EQ6 but have been waiting to save a few more dollars. ~$500 saving!

Can others advise if this is the same as the black SW EQ6 Pro ?
Also what do I need to mount my SW 8" Dob tube ?
And any other materials needed ?

Thx

I think I'll be calling and placing my order this Monday. :)

You're welcome,

It is a huge saving and I am thinking about placing an order myself. :)

There is no black EQ6 pro only white. I believe that the EQ6 pro (white) has better tracking accuracy compared to the previous version (black).

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Yip, that would be right, I just bought an eq 5 for a grand but 1500 would have been in my budget lol.

leinad - You're in the same boat as me.. I have a sw 8" dob and am buying a EQ6 pro for it, You'll need some 8" tube rings, thats about it... maybe some extra counter-weights.

I was going to buy a HEQ5pro but at those prices, the EQ6 is a much better option considering the weight of my finderscope, barlow, dslr etc etc. And at $1499... why the hell not!

Alex.

If anyone is interested in a HEQ5 pro have a look at the Used and Surplus Stock page.

There is a used HEQ5 Pro for only $799.

Are you gonna put your 10" on it Daniel? or the ED80?

Is there a chance that Synta have a new version coming out?

Hi mike,
I will probably be putting my 8" x1000 skywatcher newt with the ED80 or the 70mm refractor as a guide scope.
But I will definately give the 10" a go with the guide scope and see how it handles it.

Sounds plausible Mick,

I believe Synta is bringing out a new black diamond series.

What an amazing price! I remember only a few months ago many retailers sold this for $2,300.

Put simply - wow!

Does this mount and/or the black HEQ6 have an autoguider port. I have a preference for the black mount as its more austere, does the goto option really make the mount any better.

my only question at this stage.... I want to hang the following off this mount.. is it possible?

8" newt + guidescope (80~90mm refractor) + DSLR (either piggybacked for wide field or attached to one of the scopes)

Hi Trevor.

The EQ6 (any model) and the HEQ5 do have auto-guide ports.
The EQ6 Pro is the same as the EQ6, just a new colour and a newer hand controller (I think).

The goto really is an excellent add-on. You only need the auto-guide ports for long-exposure guided astrophotography.

Yes, it will handle that fine.
I have my 12" newt (25kg OTA + 25kg counterweights) on my older EQ6.

Bintel has also reduced their price for the Skywatcher EQ6 Skyscan GO-TO to $1495. Is this the same as the Andrew's offer?

our Aussie dollar at work. :D

Order placed with Bintel! Woohoo.

Thanks DJDD for spotting Bintels price!
I prefered to use Bintel, as they have provided great service when I dealt with them before.

Now... just gotta wait patiently for the mount/gear to arrive. :D

Strange they're calling the mount a HEQ5 - it's looks like a white version of the Synscan EQ5 I have.

Hi,

I have an EQ6, obviously it's not up to Losmandy in class, but for under 1500 bucks and with guiding its a rock solid proven performer :)

I believe the Bintel price is at the moment is actually cheaper...

leinad

There's no new mount. Wholesale price has dropped, thats all.

Matty P

Are Bintel offering free postage and a 5 year warranty?

leinad
12-05-2008, 07:39 PM
40kg Freight to Perth for free? lol, no.
Warranty, unsure. I would assume a manufacturer warranty applies though.
I was in a rush and forgot to ask. But for a $500 saving with good service; couldn't be happier. :)
