View Full Version here: : May 11 DMK Jupiter, Io shadow transit - Brisbane
Here's another RGB image of Jupiter, including the shadow of Io transiting the planet.
Feel I'm getting a little closer to getting the colours right.
Discovered I wasn't working in the right colour space/profile in PS7 for my images to be seen as I intended!!!. Haven't been...ever:scared:
Also, learned a few things about Save for Web, which it appears I've been mucking up since day one. Arrrgggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!
It's likely none of the images I've ever produced and worked through Photoshop have been right from a PS perspective. You live and you learn.
Seeing 5/10...transparency 4/10.
C9.25, DMK 21AF04, 3x barlow.
400 frames each channel processed in R4 and PS7.

Ditto Rob. A very nice image Matt. The colour looks good, nice and rich but not over the top.

Hi Matt
Great image and great news about your progress in PS. It would be really nice if there were an astro specific classroom session we could attend to learn and understand the basics.
When I learn on the job, through trial and error, with no one around me, I am never quite certain if I have chosen the best approach, or applied the best effects in the correct order, or have my workspace set up correctly etc.
Maybe some PS Wizard could run a class at the Qld Astrofest, just so we get the basic tool kit correct?
Cheers
Dennis
An excellent suggestion, Dennis.
I guess the trick would be to find someone who is both highly au fait with general PS method and procedure, but more importantly how it applies to processing astro images.
But it'd be great just to get the 'basic tool kit' worked out.
I'd certainly attend 'classes' of that type at something like Astrofest.
Maybe something for the organisers to consider for the future, given the popularity of PS in astronomy?

Another great result Matt. Particularly given the Brisbane conditions.
I'm certainly no expert in colour balance but the colour is looking really natural to me :)

Nice image Matt, definitely getting there with the colours.

There is quite a good book " Photoshop Astronomy " by R. Scott Ireland, includes Full Res Tutorial on DVD. Being a total beginner in any type of digital Astro Photography I am finding it very useful/instructive.
Hi Aster.
Isn't that Ireland book more relevant for DSO imaging (DSLR) than planetary imaging?
Although I'm sure there's still some handy info in there relating to RGB processing:)
