HAHA!! LOL!! I can see it now. The general publics perception of a Star Party.
In light of all the contraptions us Amateur Stargazers have, I have this funny picture in my mind.
The scene is set: Dark Public Park, 9:30pm.
PART 1:
A middle-aged couple out walking their dog and enjoying the calm still night. They see 5 cars pull up in the Park.
Getting out of their cars the occupants are overheard talking in some foreign language. "Grab the Alt/Az Dhumpie", "got the OTA Gazz", "Ice, straight Dobbing or EQ'en it?" "Where's me Dobbie base?".
They unload what looks like water heaters, mortars, rocket launchers and Ammunition cases. One Person puts the Water Heater on some stand. "My gosh, it's a cannon!!".
The couple watch, hidden behind some bushes, as the strangers unload all sorts of gear and keep talking in their weird language.
After a while when the rocket launchers are placed on tripods they hear buzzing whirring noises and realise that the strangers are using GUIDED missiles or something. Then all of a sudden they are all shining strange red lights around. "Wow, must be laser guided stuff".
Then things get weird. Some of them get Ironing boards out of their cars and start lining up ammunition along them.
2 others put eye patches on and enter the public toilet block! "Must be those infra-red view spy goggle thingies".
At this point the couple are regretting not bringing their mobile phone with them "these people are up to something dastardly and we have to report them".
Then the couple really freak! The strangers are connecting computers to their arsenal.
But before the couple can dash away to the nearest public phone, they see the strangers . . . .
