I thought I would see what I could get from a single exposure of the eta carina region. I took a single guided 300sec exposure through my VC200L at f6.5 a few nights ago with my unmodded 40D. There was no moon and my skies are rural dark and at an altitude of 1100m.
I processed it with Iris with flat, dark etc, performed an "asinh" stretch with Iris and reduced the noise with Noiseware CE.
All in all I was pretty happy with the outcome. What do others think?

Nice piccie, Terry. Lots of detail for a single 5 min shot. You're lucky you live in Armidale, although I reckon you should take a drive and go camping for the weekend somewhere like Nundle or Guyra and take the scope. The sky there would be black as pitch!!!. Only it'd probably freeze your eye to your eyepiece in either place!!!. At least, then, you'd have a high powered monocle:D
