Hi All,
First night out with the QHY8, nice dark clear skies.
As the title says, an image of the Lagoon and Trifid.
Scope: ED80 prime focus
Mount: EQ6 and EQMOD
Guider: ST80, ToUCam and GuideDog
QHY8 Gain 50, Offset 114. Images captured in Nebulosity.
4 x 240s subs, 1 x 240s dark stacked in DSS.
Crop, levels and curves in PS5LE. No colour correction.
As always, comments are welcome. I'm still learning how to use the QHY8 and how to post-process.
Cheers,
Rob

That's an excellent result for your first night out with your new camera Rob.
Look forward to future images as you progress with the learning curve.

Hi Rob,
That is a ripper image. We had good skies favouring us at Linden.
No colour correction shows how good the QHY8 is.
A top result on the first night out, I doubt you will do better on your 100th night out .
Regards
Gerry

Yes the 16-bit dynamic range of the QHY8 is a pleasant surprise.
Stretching the raw image to show detail in the background seemed to blow out the centre of M8, but some more fiddling with curves revealed detail right down to the central stars. The QHY8 has so much potential!

Thanks Gerry,
I hope I can improve on it! :) Now that I have a feel for the dynamic range of the QHY8, I want to reduce the gain then go longer and deeper with the exposure time. Winter is coming, and there are some very interesting objects coming into view...
Cheers,
Rob
