Hi folks,
Have been enjoying some nice dark skies with reasonable seeing on and off the last week or so :)
Here is my effort of M64 the black eye galaxy. This is the first time I have imaged this and I am quiet impressed with how it came out. Was a real cold night with a nice coating of frost on the ROR observatory so noise was very low in the subs.
Image is 12 x 6 min at iso 800 with the usual dark frames (5) taken with my 300D and 6" newtonian. Guiding was done with my Toucam and a old 70mm achro. Stacked in DSS then done some deconvolution in PixInsight and some noise reduction using a luminance mask (thanks Dietz )
Finished of in Ps with levels curves etc.
Image is a 100% crop from the original.
Hopefully its going to be clear again tonight so I can hunt down some more fuzzies...
All comments most welcome..:)
cheers Gary

Hi Gary,

Thats a very nice result. My only comment is that it looks overly smooth, maybe? Nice colour though. Its amazing what results you can get with a 300D and a 6 inch Newt; galaxies, who would have thunk it

Very nice indeed Gary, there is a great level of detail in your image and the dark dust lane stands out perfectly.

A top job.

Magnificent work Gary. The central dust lane provides a bold exclamation mark - certain eye catching (no pun intended). Looks like there maybe some more data hidden there, but may introduce noise if pushed to hard. Well done.

Beautiful image. I have only ever seen this galaxy through a huge scope ( not mine ) and you have captured the detail very very well.

Keep up the good work.

Maybe after Gary's rendition of the galaxy, we should change its name to the "Peeping Tom" Galaxy.... since it has a black and purplish blue colouration:D
