looking at purchasing a Toucam 900NC for Planetary imaging and wondering would a -
GSO 2.5x, 1.25", fully multi-coated, 3 element apochromatic
do the job or is a Televue Powermate a must have?
ps. Will I need any sort of filters?
thanks

Hi there
Will you be using it with your 8" newt?
Do you have an UV/IR blocking filter? That's really the only filter you need with the ToUcam. It's not a must-have but it's fairly good to have and will help stop some bleeding between the colour channels.
The Powermate's are best because they'll bring the colour channels back into alignment the best. A cheap barlow may be ok, but if you can afford it, the televue powermate's are great.
Also, think about getting a 5x powermate to give you more image scale with your 8" newt.

Not actually sure yet Mike, if I proceed with the purchase of the 5" APO then will probably use that .. and no, don't have a UV/IR filter :(

You'll want to use your 8" then, most definitely. It should (if properly collimated and cooled) deliver much better results than your 5".
Get a 2.5x and a 5x powermate :)
and an IR/UV filter.

Any will do - the baader UV/IR blocking filter is fine.
