I was just reading through the Aus Sky & Telescope mag and came across a new line of ED APO refractors from Orion.

The EON series. http://www.telescope.com/control/category/~category_id=eoned;jsessionid=B69DE 4B3EE3436F582ACCE730FB97652.ivprod1

There are three different types a 72mm, 80mm and 120mm.

They look very similar to the Skywatcher Equinox series.

That is good price for the EON ED120. The EON ED100 /120 is the equivalent of the Skywatcher Equinox series. The EON72 mm is 'new' however. They both have the 2 speed focuser and improved 'assembly and finish'. The EON ED120 OTA is priced at $2900 while the Orion with the single speed Crayford is $4170 !
I have the Eqinox ED120 on a HEQ5 and it is an impressive scope - minimal CA and noticably brighter images then my ED100. It makes a good planatary scope. I sold my Celestron SE8 to finance it and have no regrets.
I also recently added a Stellarvue bino viewer and that makes viewing so much more relaxing and actually improves perceived detail.
I would recommend the ED120 highly esp for that price.

Thanks for the reply Chris,

The Orion EON series seem like they a good quality scope and I would love to get one. I would like to know if anyone in IIS have one already.

The only exception is that they are a little bit expensive compared to the Skywatcher pro series. Do you think that the extra cash is worth it?

Nice looking setup BTW. :)

What made you sell your Celestron 8SE for a ED refractor?

The Orion EON are made by Synta/ Skywatcher and are as cheap as any Skywatcher 120 ED I have ever seen. Would be a great photographic instrument.
