as the title says... taken with a D50, a-focal.. was done a few days ago and I dont particularly remember the settings etc.... could probably do with more focus.

Nice image, Alex. The craters near the bottom are sharp but in the top left hand corner they're blurry. That's not so much to do with focus, but more likely to be field curvature or coma in the eyepiece or lens you're using.

You're best to make sure that the area you want to capture is closest to the centre of the eyepiece.

Also even though the bottom half is sharp, it's also very very smooth. What post-processing did you do? It looks like it's had a tad too much noise reduction applied.

Keep at it!

After going back and finding the original image, It was actually taken with my 5mp mobile phone camera... That would probably account for the lack of surface detail, not withstanding focus.

Post processing - Photoshop CS 2 was used to adjust Curves + gradient map to level it all out a bit.

An unsharp mask was applied, but not to any great degree, (to be honest i didnt see much of a difference at all. definitely not to the lunar surface...

Will bust out a few extreme closeups tonight with the DSLR any my latest toy (4x 2" barlow!!) should be able to get some nice detail out of it then!

Thanks for commenting!

A very nice image Alex especially if it was taken with a mobile phone camera!

Looking forward to see what you can do with your DSLR.
