Hi everyone: I'm a new member here; just wanted to introduce myself.

I live in the beautiful mountains of Montana, USA; have absolutely beautiful dark skies.

Just had a roll off roof Observatory built last Fall, which will house my new Guan Sheng 3 strut 16" Dobson, coming very soon!:D

I've only been active in Astronomy for 3 years, but it is now my life! I share my home with 2 loving companions, a 2 yr old yellow lab, & a 10 yr old labX.

Looking forward to "meeting" all of you!

Carol

Welcome to IIS Carol, hope you have a great time here with us.

As the other have mentioned, I'd love to see some pictures of the observatory. The viewing in the mountains must be awesome I'll bet.

Cheers

Hope I did this correctly. The three photos show my "DreamCatcher" Observatory, & the view I have.

My Observatory is a 10'X10' with a motorized roll-off roof. It was built especially for Dobsonians. The walls are 3' high, while the East wall has a "drop-down", so it also is 3' high.

I had a concrete pad poured in the center for the telescope to rest on.

Here it is with the roof open. It looks as though it is tilting, but actually the ground drops considerably, making it "look" that way.

It is fully wired, with a "white" light, and a "red" light on a dimmer switch.

Hi Carol

Welcome to IIS and the down under astro community. And wow - what an amazing setting for your observatory, it looks absolutely idyllic! I’m just outside in suburban Brisbane right now, taking a few photos of the close conjunction between the Moon and Antares, local time 2:29 am….zzzzzz

Cheers

John, sorry you are disappointed with CN. Since I'm a Moderator there, with over 20,000 posts, I'm slightly prejudiced. :) Rather disappointed that a member from this friendly site would cast stones at a Site that is very near & dear to my heart.

Carol,

Welcome to IIS, I feel like we are old friends from CN.

Really jealous of your observatory, I would love one but my wife loves the trees more and she definitely outranks me :)
