Ha was the only way to manage this one with the full moon. It is an association of a least seven different NGC or IC objects ranging from mag 10.5 to 14 in the LMC. Obviously more data needed and I hope to get some colour in the next couple of weeks before the LMC is too low. Pitty the fog rolled in.

25x1min subs in Ha. Stacked in MaxIm DL and processed in PS2

Hi Matt,

An interesting object. I will be interested to see how you combine the RGB with the Ha as I am thinking of doing much the same. Promising Ha start with lots of data.

Guys....what I'd do is use Ha for the luminance channel and then take heaps of subs for a long exposure of, say, 180-270mins. Then do RGB 90mins of each, same way. Might take a few days, but you want a nice piccie:)

I'd try it myself but the seeing up here of late has been RS.

Hi Matt, a very interesting DSO in its shape and form.

Your image looks great but it does seem as if it has been clipped a bit and therefore hiding some of the more subtle features that Ha should be bringing out.

Looking forward to seeing the colour added in.

Cheers

Nice detail Matt. A couple of things though:
1) Why is it purple? I would've expected the Ha data to be monochrome (grey)?
2) Like Ric said, looks to be heavily clipped on the black point. Do you have an unprocessed version (after stacking) we could look at?

Cheers

Thanks for your interest. It is an interesting object lots of references in SIMBAD. Conditions have been atrocious here with controled burns and an inversion layer for days. The moon hasn't cooperated either so yes, more data is needed, at least another hour Ha and then the RGB.

This is how I perceive Ha based on its emission frequency. It may be a bit heavy on the magenta. If there is a plug in or program which automatically renders Ha I would love to hear about it. Yes I have probably over clipped the black end in an attempt to control some of the noise from the short exposure times, (sorry, bad technique). I need guiding but can't afford it yet. I have attached a compressed version of the original Ha warts and all. Thanks again. I learn heaps from this kind of input.

I actually like that original version better, Matt.

A bit of noise in the background is ok - I don't find it overly distracting. I actually like the detail and greyscale version of the ha here.

Nicely done!

Hi Matt, there is certainly a lot more fine detail in the original and as you said more data will bring it out as well.

Cheers

Thanks. I will try combining the Red and Ha before rendering when the sky finally clears.
