View Full Version here: : EQ5 Mount Needs Good Home. Plus other goodies!

I have an EQ5 mount + tripod, counterweights etc - the whole thing. No drives. The black gunk used for grease has been exorcised, and a minor polish job and de-burr performed before reassembly with white lithium grease. Used approximately 6 times since new. Now gathering dust so needs a good home. Yours for $275 plus postage.

Also have a 1.25" Baader contrast booster filter. Used once. $50.00

Meade 2" #930 Mirror diagonal $95.00

I would consider 8x40/50 binos (sporting use, not astro) as part trade.

Thanks for looking!

Where abouts do you live Mark?

I wonder how much it would cost to fit drives to the EQ5.

I'm in Wagga. I think I'll update my profile.

I would think mebbe $150 for single axis drive and mebbe $240 odd for dual axis. I have some Meade DS drives/Autostar that I was going to modfiy to suit it but I never got a round to it.

It WON'T carry the 10" MIke, sorry.
Great for other smaller scopes though.

Hey Mark,

Are you the same Mark that sold me the 4" f/5 refractor :) Have been testing the scope out over the weekend (still more testing required) and it is great. This one fits a very strange niche in my scope arsenal. It is not as sharp (chromatic abberation plus spherical abberation) and does not have the light grasp of my C6 (6"f/5 newt) and surprisingly not as sharp as my Orion 80ST at similar powers (probably due to its larger aperture). It is not what you would call a grab and go since it is quite hefty and my photo tripod does a very poor job of supporting it. But it is very much lighter on my EQ mount and it is collimation free. I will be bringing it to the Queensland Astrofest in two weeks and put it through its paces. Will keep you updated.

it'll carry a 8" f6 tho wont it? :)

Yep. :)

I had good intentions for that scope but they never panned out. Mag 4 or brighter objects cause a fair bit of false colour if I recall. It did manage to produce some spectacular views of Eta Carinae though!

For visual it would be OK but not really steady enough for long exposure astrophotography.

and it would just need some rings and you'd be set hey?

Im thinking it could be a nice astrophotography capable mount for my ED 80 :)

What are the tripod legs made of Mark ?

Oops. Sorry everyone. I hope I haven't terminated Mark's thread prematurely (that's why I'm posting this).

This is definitely a great deal on offer here with Mark's mount. I would encourage anyone currently in the market to definitely consider this one. In fact, I was just on the brink of buying what I still think is a bargain mount in excellent condition — just on the brink of signing the cheque, no less — when those wonderfully kind guys from AS& T rang to tell me that I'd just won a scope mounted on (you guessed it) an EQ5. (Very nice, I'm sure, and I'm very, very grateful to them, but I'm sure Mark's is even nicer...) So please, please, guys, if anyone is in the market, give Mark a call.

My apologies, Mark.

:ashamed:

All the best,

Brian.

Mark you said that you had drive motors and an autostar. What would be needed to fit them to the mount.

do counter weights come with it?

how do you manually track with it?

There are two counterweights plus slo-mo controls with the mount. I no longer have the 6" dovetail (Darren scored that with the 102mm f/5). I do have Meade DS motor kit with a #494 Autostar that intended to fit but it never happened. The easiest way to fit the DS motors is with the Goto4all brackets (I don't have any). This in effect turns the EQ5 into a full goto/tracking mount. I also have a #497 Autostar. The DS kit and the #494 would be extra. The #497 would be a LOT extra. :)
