You know how the full moon always looks HUGE when it's close to the horizon? Well that is the impression that this big boy gives.
But put a ruler next to him and he's not as big as he looks. Only about 11cm.
I guess it's his "chunkiness" that make him seem that way.
Still, he gives the kids the heebie jeebies every time they go to the loo.
When he decides to move to a brighter location, I hope to get some nice macro's.

WOW!!!!! That is the most rotund huntsman I have ever seen!
I hate spiders... but that guy is impressive. I wonder what he's been eating to get like that.

Maybe its a girl, and I would be very concerned as to this things whereabouts when its not on the wall. Like, it might be under the toilet seat ^.^
:eyepop:Geez JJJ, you breed them big up there.
He'll keep any mouse/rabbit problem under control. :D

That is a truly handsome spider! I'm really glad to see that you're letting her (probably a female) go about her spider business with minimal interference. Spiders are fascinating, useful and generally harmless and every home should have a few. Great photos too, JJJ. She looks like she's wearing an expression of intense concentration in the first photo.

She's probably half blinded/stunned from the flash on the camera.
Poor thing.
I used a torch to illuminate her for all the other photos I took.
Wow, JJJ that is a beauty, I have seen some big ones before, but not that big...

I woke with one on my chest once, scared the living bejeezus out of me. I
cant stand spiders, but funnily enough huge huntsmans dont scare me
anymore... well not as much. Wasting half a can of spray on them seems a
torturous way to die. And if I whack one with a thong I feel guilty like I've
killed an animal not an insect. However I dont mind shooting animals as
long as they're to be eaten : ) not into shooting things for the sake of it.
Unless they're rabbits.
He is certainly a health fella you have there jjj

Friday night my son says - just seen the biggest huntsman ever, in the family room; don't know where it is now. I had a quick look, but couldn't see it. Don't tell the ladies of the house I tell him or they won't let me go to bed until I've stripped the room bare and found it.
Next morning, there she/he is, hanging off the curtain pelmet. A quick bit of work with bucket/brush and eviction to outdoors is complete. At that stage I told/showed wife and daughter. Not happy Jan - that I let them go in a room last night with that fella there. What do don't know, ...... :D

The little Puggies have such a sense of humour, they'd be enjoying the laughs too.

They also have ten legs! Must be mutant spiders!

I would guess he's been eating cockroaches and mice (and rats and canetoads;)).
Was you nice and put him back outside with the brisslely end of your broom rather than killing him with it.
If he is a she and she lays eggs inside you'll have a tiny spider plague in a few months .... been then done that .
i am guessing jeanete has been feeding it babies

hehe... they LOVE being spiders :)
Erick - they're not spiders, as such. They're still bugs though!

You know only too well, oh fellow Pug owner! :)
Our fifth is being born this week - a black male we're going to call Foo Man Chew. :D

I couldn't kill him. No way. And if I put him outside he'll be eaten by one of our Maggies or Butcher Birds. He's quite welcome to stay inside and help me with the housework.
We have no Daddy Long Legs left in the loo now and his bristly legs have swept up all the webs.
I might move him to the lounge room later on today and he can start cleaning up there.
When he gets a bit bigger, I'll start him off on kitchen chores, doing the dishes, cooking simple meals etc.

LOL! Too funny Jeanette :) What are you going to call him...er..her..er..?
jjjnettie
21-04-2008, 01:08 PM
Assuming it's a girl, I think I'll call her Rosie.
Naming her after that other infamous house keeper, Rose Hancock.
Better watch out Jeanette, it might run off with your husband and the family fortune. :D
Cheers
Hi JJJ found this guy the other night. Not as big as your one but still big
for me.

It may not be as much of a heavy weight as Rosie, but it covers a fair bit of area with those long legs.
Did it get evicted after taking the photo?
Hi jjj it sure did get evicted outside.

She's a beaut, no doubt.
Spider Loo?
Don't give my wife any ideas...she thinks I spend too much time there, she might get ideas about shortening my loo-time. It would work, too...
And talk about scaring the ?&%@#! out of your house guests. Good think it's in the right room for that...

ANYWHERE she wants! :P
Great pics Jeanette, she/he sure is a handsome bugger.
Having said that, after once going to sleep watching a fairly large huntsman wandering around my bedroom ceiling, and waking up sometime later after hearing it "plop" and land on my bed (yes, I really did hear it land, and yes it was a big bugger too) if I find them in the bedroom or loo I move them on to a location where they are less likely to try and ambush me.
(which probably explains why I still have so many cobwebs in my loo, unlike you Jeanette, no huntsmans to clear them away here.)

It's move from the laundry now.
I wonder where it will turn up next?

thanks for the continuing adventures of rosie the spider :D

We had one in Springvale that used to move around the house. Kids thought it was a great game, "hunt the spider" every morning. :)

Heres my contribution to the big spider thread:)
The spray can shown is merely an indicator of size and in no way indicates the fate of the featured spider.
This one's not bad either.
Maybe put a sign on your toilet dooor.
