As a beginner, I'm using Orion as a target that is easy to photograph but hard to do well, so I reckon it's a good target to practice on. Here's a link to a photo I took on 13 March with my Canon 400D at prime focus of 8" LX90. It's not brilliant, but it's better than my previous attempt, so I guess that means I'm now on the second bottom rung of the ladder. Hoping to try polar alignment on the weekend, but I guess the moon will be pretty close to Orion by then so maybe need to photograph something else.

Looks like it all worked! What a great shot. Looks very natural to me.. I like seeing the trapezium.

Nice shot mate. I've been spending alot of time gazing at orion the past 4 or 5 days... The naked eye doesnt see it like that...

Very good start Stuart. I think most of us began with Orion Nebula. If you want another target once the moon is close to Orion have a try with Eta Carina Nebula NGC 3772 it's large and reasonably bright.

To highlight your image of Eta a little you can use Photoshop curves function.

Glad to see you so keen....keep them coming
