Hi All,

I would like to know your opinions on what satelite I captured. i was playing with my new camera at 10x zoom and taking photos of some planes as they came over, I noticed on this image a object which I think is a satelite? The sun appears to hit the sat on the same side as the plane which I thought was odd. Any ideas? I had to resize it to upload the image.

Its a cigar shaped UFO  . apart from the dust spore it would be very difficult to work out what that was? Where were you looking, at what time and try to work out the part of the sky you were looking at when you took the photo. note time date and approx direction you were facing and its rough height above the horizon. I'll then plug it into skycharting programme to see what it could have been?

Iridium flares are visible during the day so it may be possible.

I have seen Satellites during the day, not iridium but was like one you see at night, but didnt look like the image. I took pics of a UFO too while taking pics of an Airforce 707 flying near my house. No idea what it was.

Hope you dont mind Kevin..I mucked about with your pic. The color I didn't muck with at all...this is the objects "natural" colour...just brought out using some tweaking.

It's got me stumped!:eyepop:

That red on the object look's suspiciously like the same colour as that qantas 727...or is it a 737? not sure.

Sorry, its a qantas plane, satellites dont have wings
why dont you download WXtrack at www.satsignal.net (http://www.satsignal.net) great free satellite tracking program
i use it all the time, just load the 100 brightest satellites from celestrak.com every couple of weeks to keep the tracking accurate.most satellites are about the size of a fridge appart from the space station, and hubble telescope which are huge.

It's fairly obvious what it is..........It's a Nuclear Missile.

Well...I cant see wings on the object in question. :D

Strange and intresting when you see pics like that. :confuse3:

Well if you cant see wings, that planes in big trouble
Me thinks you need a bigger telecsope

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your replies. asimov you did a great job on enhanceing the object, After seeing this i wouldn't think it could be a satellite, I thought all satellites were silver and gold.

h0ughy, I took this image last month when jupiter and the moon were close together, about 4pm in the afternoon, I was looking east at the time and the plane was about 70deg high and heading north. i wouldn't think another aircraft would be allowed to fly this close to a boeing.
Astroman your images are also very interesting, I have always been sceptical about aliens in spaceships, but these thing always make you look more closely. Do you love near Richmond NSW?

i guess we will have to file it into a X files :eyepop:

OOPS! Sorry guys. I need bigger glasses.
Cant see satellites during the day,not even the ISS
Must be a UFO,very intresting.

ok, that doesn't explain what it could be....seeing I was the 'ufoologist' in my area back year's ago....& still dont believe in them lol...I do notice it's not QUITE the same focus as the jet....it looks slightly fuzzier than the jet to me....that's telling me something.....could it be something ie: a bit of crud/small bird feather (the list go's on) falling to earth past the camera not far from the lens....hence...not quite the same focus (for want of a better word?) Was the wind blowing when this pic was taken?

What film speed did you use and what exposure time, I imagine it was pretty fast.
It would be pretty hard to track a Qantas 737 with anything. It is definately not an aircraft.
It is quite probable that it was a Bolide just grazing the atmosphere, and though I doubt it, a satellite, the trail would have been much shorter.

No more petty jokes guy's, this could be something exciting.

Kev, Send the photo to AS & T for publication

I for one, want to know the date/time/camera(make & model)/location/atmospheric condition's/any more shot's?/witness's(dont matter if they saw anything or not)

It could be a plane... I can just make out a small protrusion which could be a wing on an angle. However, if it was a plane, wouldn't it be flying at a 90 degree angle to the horizontal?

EDIT: Just went back for another look... how close do you live to an airport? It sort of appears to be another plane flying at a higher altitude but perpendicular to the obvious airliner. Perhaps we can't make out the wings as it is circling to wait for clearance to land and is therefore on a titled angle?

I reckon we should make and Ice in Space UFO gallery :D What fun that would be :2thumbs:

I am a little apprehensive about publicly attaching my name to this image and sending it to AS&T :ashamed: , It looks to be a image that might cause a stir lol

Date: 16/6/2005
Time: Approx 4pm
Location: gosford
Camera: Fujiflim S5000, 3 mp, 10x optical zoom

When i took the image, I anticpated the path of the plane and waited for it to appear in the frame, I then snaped it. I really did not pay much attention to exposure.

The only other person there was my father, we both did not see it visually.
i have attached the before and after shots. the blank one is when i missed the plane and taken before the image in question, the one of the moon was taken after the image in question. Both have been resized

Have a look to the far right of the first image in this thread, There appears to be a circular darkish object there too, also at a different focus. Wierd:scared2:

The circular dark object to the right looks like a dust doughnut, dunno what the thing on the left is. To me it looks to be more in focus than the plane which would put it in the foreground.

hmm...
I played with it in PSP and darkened it a touch then used unsharp mask and enalrged it... I swear it looks like a missile. it is probably a plane tho because there are 2 bit sticking out of it on each side bout half way along

asimov
24-07-2005, 08:18 PM
At a higher altitude hey?

ving
24-07-2005, 08:28 PM
well yeah...of course.
if its a plane I'd say its as big as the one in the forground. richmond (is that where he is) has an airforce base... could be something to do with that too.... :confuse3:

You'll have to excuse my stupid "at a higher altitude, hey?" cos' my vid card is only giving my 16 colors....the 'seeing conditions' for viewing pics is not the best tonite, lol

lol! hows the puter problem coming along anyhow?

Well here's food for thought, lets say the jet was at 35,000 feet and is, say, 100 feet long, lets say it is a satelite at least at low earth orbit around 80 miles up, that makes the object about 5 times the size of the Sydney harbour bridge in relation to the aircraft, and I am being generous, me thinks it is just a speckle of noise from the CCD.
